1882 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins – The Worth of Morgan Dollar

Morgan Dollar coins were only made from the year 1878 to 1904. The number that each coin is identified by is the year it was minted. Any of the Morgan Dollars can be considered rare since they are not only antiques they also have a limited number made in the first place. Each coin has a different value depending on how many are left of the coin currently and the condition the coin is in. Every year the coin was made there were also mint marks which determine which batch the coin was a part of. Different mint marks also attribute to the value of the coin.

When looking into the value of an 1882 Morgan silver coin, it would help to check a coin collection price guide. These guides are helpful for anyone looking to purchase or sell one of these coins. Collectors have established what they consider the condition of their coin to be and when they are selling they set the price generally based on the coin book value. Depending on which mint mark a coin has, the value of the coins ranges anywhere from under one hundred dollars to well over one thousand. The mints that less were made of will be the ones that fetch a higher price from collectors.

While many of the various 1882 Morgan silver coin mints can be found on websites that buy, sell, and trade coins, some of these coins are only found in private collections and museums. People seriously interested in purchasing the rarer mints should consider posting an ad in one of the many coin collector communities stating their interest and what they are willing to pay. Since those coins are limited, it’s likely a person will have to pay over the coin’s value to convince someone to part with it.

There were none minted between 1905 and 1920 and 1893 – 1895 mintages were low but applying the same type of building activity analysis can lead to some good detector finds. An upper class neighborhood area where many of the homes were built in the 1880 to 1900 time-frame has yielded several Morgan silver Dollars for me. A very valuable 1882 S in AU condition with doubling on both sides is the best, but choice 1885 O and 1896 coins are also nice additions to my collection.

For people who have just started a coin collection and are interested in acquiring an antique coin for less money, other years and mints of the Morgan silver Dollars are less expensive with some priced as low as twenty dollars.
